Meet Thor Mickelson

Mayflower was delighted to welcome Thor Mickelson to the staff in September as our Director of Operations and Development. Formerly known as the Business and Operations Administrator, this position also includes some financial development responsibility. Thor will also serve on the Leadership Team with Rev’s Campbell, Goldthwaite Fries, and Brown.

Thor comes to Mayflower with a background in both theology and organizational management. He grew up in southern Minnesota, worshipping at the local United Methodist Church. His parents were active lay volunteers; his mother served as the Lay Leader of the United Methodist Church for Minnesota.

An interest in social justice and the role of the church led him to seminary, where he earned a MDiv from Yale Divinity School, and worked with community organizations and a local church. After seminary, he served a year residency as a chaplain at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital. He then continued his interest in religious education at Teacher’s College at Columbia University.

In addition to his interest in theology, Thor has a strong passion for developing organizations. He has managed several small businesses for the last 20 years as a manager and chief operating officer. He has directed a small private foundation, which works with community organizations. He has an MBA in finance from the University of Minnesota. He graduated from St. Olaf College where he met his partner, Cindi Beth Johnson, who works at United Theological Seminary. He hopes in this role to further the vital ministry and mission of Mayflower United Church of Christ.
