Scouting

Boy Scout Troop 187 and Cub Pack 187 are among the oldest and strongest scout programs in the Viking Council. Boy Scouts of America granted Mayflower Church its first troop charter in 1929. Scouts are taught teamwork, self-discipline, and leadership under the direction of a volunteer scoutmaster and assistant scoutmasters.

• Boy Scouts (ages 11-18) and Cub Scouts (ages 6-11) meet once each week at Mayflower.

• Camping is the heart of the troop program, and monthly campouts give the youth a taste of the great outdoors in all seasons. Mayflower’s troop owns and operates its own facility, Camp St. Croix, for winter campouts, a two-week summer camp, and other scouting activities throughout the year. Parents play an essential role in the program.

• Mayflower opposes the Boys Scouts of America’s position on banning gay scouts and leaders, and the Scouts at Mayflower honor the church’s open and affirming policy.
