Social Justice

At Mayflower, we are called to become catalysts for justice through communion with God, education, and action. We strive towards God’s dream of peace and abundance for all people, seeking to be both transformed and transformational. This mission informs all areas of our life together, including how we witness, organize, serve our neighbors, and give for the common good.

Many Mayflower activities can be considered social justice programs and many have social justice implications. However, most of these activities fall into these categories:

Marriage Equality: Activities that support our Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgendered (GLBT) members, GLBT members of our own families and the GLBT community at-large. The main thrust of this activity is educating members of the congregation and the wider community on the inherent discrimination and hurt contained in the current state marriage laws and in a proposed amendment to the state constitution banning same sex marriages. More information here.

Earthwise Congregation: Activities that acknowledge God's love for us and the world we inhabit. More information here.

Creekside Commons: Workforce housing project located immediately north of the church parking lot. The building was completed in 2010 and now provides safe, healthy and comfortable housing for 30 working, low-income families. Mayflower continues to be involved by tutoring students and providing opportunities for residents to improve their English abilities. More information here.

Witnessing and Organizing: Improving our community and world by witnessing to God's love and care for all people and coming together with individuals and groups to improve the world in which we live. More information here.
