Are you looking for a church where:

• Your faith journey is accepted and respected?
• Everyone is invited to the communion table?
• You can find a class for everyone in the family?
• Gay, lesbian, and straight families worship and work together?
• Questioning is expected, and even welcomed?
• Music is a central part of worship?
• Diversity is seen as a part of God’s wondrous creation?
• Children and youth are affirmed, nurtured, and empowered to grow spiritually?

Mayflower Church is a progressive Christian church. We are a church of inquiring minds; we welcome the opportunity to discuss, disagree, learn from each other, and develop our faith in community. We are also a non-creedal church, which means you don’t have to believe one particular thing to be a part of our congregation.

We do, however, hold many faith beliefs in common at Mayflower: We believe that God loves all of us equally, and invites us to worship and grow together. Our congregation includes people who are young and old, gay/lesbian and straight, differently abled and temporarily able bodied, single, married and divorced, people who have children, and people who do not. We work to be a place where we are respectful and affirming of the diversity of culture, race, and thought that God has created among us.

• We believe in grace. Each of us has places in our lives where we have not been the people God has called us to be. We affirm that we are always welcome as we are, and invited to become all that we might be.

• We believe that when we gather for Holy Communion, it is God who invites us to share the meal. Therefore we practice open communion, which means that everyone is invited, regardless of church affiliation, age, or particular tests of faith.

• We believe that God is still speaking to and through us today. We look for God’s calling to us, as we face the important issues of the day, and we trust that God sends us forth from our worship to work for a more peaceful and just world.

• We believe in community. We have been part of this community for over 75 years.

Membership
Mayflower Church requires no creedal affirmation or doctrinal assent for membership. We do ask all who join to “own” with us the following covenant:

Affirming the sovereignty of Christ, we covenant with God and one another, binding ourselves in God’s presence, to walk together in all God’s ways, as they are made known to us in the words of scripture, the traditions of the church, and in our continuing search for meaning and truth.

Mayflower Church offers two membership cycles each year for people who are considering joining the congregation and would like to learn more about Mayflower. Participants meet to consider their faith journeys and to become acquainted with specific programs and opportunities within our congregation. The ordained ministers and representatives of Mayflower’s ministries share information about programs, answer questions, and discuss the expectations and responsibilities of church members.

Mayflower nurtures life within small groups and communities that organize for fellowship, service, learning, and support. We encourage individuals to join in fellowship, seek out care and guidance, and participate in small groups at Mayflower.
