Mayflower's Children & Youth Programs
Mayflower Church offers educational opportunities for children and youth ages three years through grade 12. Sunday School is offered for children age 3–grade 8; young people in grades 9–12 are invited to join the Mayflower Youth Group.
In Mayflower’s progressive Christian learning environment:
• Children are treasured and welcomed as a gift from God.
• Children learn in a loving, safe, nurturing, welcoming and fun environment.
We welcome each child who enters our doors! We encourage families to fill out an inclusion assessment when registering for church school so we can meet unique needs and styles.
Sunday School
Sunday Church School is held on Sunday mornings during the school year from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Adult volunteers, supported by professional staff, teach the grade-level classrooms. The children and youth participate in age-appropriate presentations, discussions, activities, and large group singing and story times that reflect the seasons of the church year. They also lead special Christmas worship services and an annual Youth Sunday program for the whole congregation.
Vacation Church School is held each June the first full week after the Minneapolis Public School year concludes.
Worship Services
Children are encouraged to attend worship services and to participate in communion. Rainbow bags for younger children and journals for older elementary-age children are provided at the back of the sanctuary. Worship services can be heard in the narthex if parents need to step out with restless children. Child care is available during worship services for children ages five and younger.
• Through service learning projects, children are given the opportunity to work for justice in the world.
• Children hear, read, and experience Bible stories, discovering ways to interpret and apply the teachings of those stories in their daily lives.
• God is experienced through prayer, music, service, learning, relationships, and worship. Religious questioning and inquiry is supported and encouraged.
