April 4 – Voice from the Burning Bush

Did you know that God is in places we never thought of?  Today our story is about how Moses finds God in a burning bush!  Can you believe that?  Moses shows us that God is here for us literally everywhere.  God is in our waking, and our sleeping.  God is with us when we are afraid and when we are happy.  God comes to us in our pets and in the wind that tickles our faces.  God nourishes us through the food we eat and love we get from others.  Wherever love and support is, there is God too!

April 3 – Moses is Saved

I wonder what you are grateful for today.  When we are grateful for something, it means it’s something that we are happy about or something we are glad we have. Today, I am grateful for my home, family, and friends. What are you grateful for today?

March 31 – Joseph Feeds and Forgives

The other day, a very good friend dropped a social distance care package off at my door. I was so happy to receive it! It feels really good to be remembered. During the Time with Children this past Sunday, I asked you to reach out to your Sunday School classmates. I bet you’d be surprised how much hearing from you would mean to them! Parents, you received an email from me with contact information for each class. If you didn’t receive it, just let me know and I will send again. Prayers for health. Prayers for joy. Prayers for being in community in different ways for the time being.

March 27 – Little Engine That Could

In today’s story, folks tend to focus on the little engine that finally agreed to pulling the train over the mountain.  I’d like to give an MVP to the toy little toy clown though.  He always kept his head up and believed there was a way to make it over the mountain.  I wonder how we can be more like the little toy clown.

March 25 – Strange Visitors

In today’s story, Abraham and Sarah help people that they had never met before.  They didn’t know anything about them.  They just saw three people that could probably use some food and rest.  So they helped!  These visitors turned out to be angels.  When we help our neighbor who we may not know, we never know who that person really is.  And, it is always a blessing to help. Each first Sunday of the month, you (our children) are invited to bring canned food forward to support the good efforts of V.E.A.P. (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People).  Because of all of us staying home to protect each other from getting really sick right now, we won’t be able to do it in the same way this coming month.  But, we can still help!  VEAP does a lot of good things for people in need.  We hope you consider being helpful by supporting V.E.A.P.

March 24 – A Wonderful Dream

Today our story tells us that God is everywhere!  God’s Love and joy are always with you, even when we can’t feel it.  It’s there!  I hope you are all well and feeling God’s Love.

March 21 – I Am Peace

Peace is all over nature! Archie and I found some peace on our walk at the Stone Arch Bridge today. We took time to slow down, look at the water, and smile at the other people enjoying their day. I wonder what you are doing to have peace in your life right now.

March 20 – Abraham Trusts God

Today, I’m feeling grateful for Children. In our story today, God tells Abraham that God will give Abraham and Sarah lots and lots of children! I feel like Abraham because I feel so grateful that I have all of the wonderful children at Mayflower as friends. And, I am really missing you! I can’t wait till we can be with one another again on Sundays! Until then, I’ll keep you all close in prayer and fond memories.

March 19 – Adam and Eve

In our Bible story today, Adam says, “I need a proper friend.”  God replies, “you are quite right.”  These days, having our friends around us can be really good.  Accept, we can’t physically BE around them!  So, we have to be creative. My dog Archie and cat Bianca are my most important friends while we are all isolating (isolating means that we can’t be around all of our friends and neighbors right now).  Archie and Bianca bring me joy with their kisses and cuddles.  I also call friends and family a lot more than I usually do so that they know I care, and so we can all feel a little less alone. I wonder who are the friends you’ve been reaching out to during this time of not going to school and being at home a lot.  Maybe your grandparents? Senior friend?  Sunday school teachers?  I know they would just love to hear from you!

March 18 – Creation Story

Today is a good day to be grateful for God’s creation, even if things feel different right now. In my neighborhood downtown, I’ve noticed the birds chirping and the chilly wind on my skin, and those things help me feel connected to God, especially now. Can you name something aloud that is helping you feel connected to God? Each day, I wonder if we could join together to do some small moments of blessing and prayer together. These are moments you can share with your other family members, or maybe they can be times just for you. These prayers won’t change. They’ll be the ones we do together each day while we aren’t able to see each other on Sundays.
